Copy The Treatment Group to Make The Control Group

Treatment Group             S        M        M        T        M         M        S
Control Group                  S        M        M        (  )      M         M        S

Now that all of the major events have been sequenced in the Treatment Group, we can simply  duplicate the whole group in the Sequencing Window to make the Control Group.

To duplicate the Treatment Group with all of its events, click on the Sequencing tab.  Click on Treatment Group.  Click on the Actions menu and select Duplicate.  Now, there will be a second group called "New Group"  in the Execute List Window that contains all of the same names as the Treatment Group.  Duplicating groups in this way is a great ProtoGenie time saver.

it is necessary to make three changes to customize the control group.  The first is the name of the group.  To change this, click on the Make & Edit Groups tab and select "New Group."  Now you can change the group label from "New Group" to "Control Group" in the Group Specification Tablle.  While you are there you can edit the group description to say "Subjects in this group are NOT presented the animation (treatment).  Instead of a treatment, there is a "null event."

A second change is necessary because (by definition) there is no treatment event in the control group.  To make this change go to the Sequencing tab.  Select the Control Group.  Select "Animation Treatment" and under the Actions menu, click Delete Name.

The animation treatment event name needs to be replaced by a "null event" name.  The way to make a null event is to click on the Make & Edit Events tab and above the Event Specification Table click on Create.  Select Treatment and under that "Unspecified Treatment."  Now, change the event label in the Event Specification Table from "Unspecified Treatment" to "Null Event."  See (  ) in the diagram above.  Go to the Sequencing tab and in the Event Names Window, click on "Null Event" and then on the right arrow labeled Enter Event Name.

While in this window, you can make the third change to the Control Group, which is to delete the event name "Instructions Animation Event," since there is no animation treatment event in the control group.  Simply select "Instructions Animation Event," click Actions and then Delete Name.
