Creating the Control Group (Continued)
Treatment Group S1 T M1 M2 M3 M4 S2
Control Group S1 ( ) M1 M2 M3 M4 S2
To make the null event [see ( ) above] click on the Make & Edit Events tab and above the Event Specification Table click on Create. Select Treatment and under that select "Unspecified Treatment." Now, change the event label in the Event Specification Table from "Unspecified Treatment" to "Null Event."
Actually, the two questions in the Control Group do not need to be made from scratch. In fact, the only difference between the questions in the Treatment Group and the Control Group is that party cues are given in the treatment group questions. It is important that the wording in both cases is otherwise exactly the same.
We can do this with another powerful feature of the ProtoGenie Composer, which is a Duplicate option.
In the Event Specification Table of the Make & Edit Events Window, select "Position Food Stamps Given Party Cues." Click on Edit and Duplicate. Now edit the label to read, "Position Food Stamps No Party Cues" and edit the question to read "The Government has put into law a plan to cut taxes. Experts agree that the plan has a 75 percent chance of creating many new jobs this year. But other experts point out that even if the plan works, it will greatly increase the national debt and thus hurt future generations.
Do you support or oppose the tax cut?"
Do the same for "Position Food Stamps Given Party Cues." Edit this label to read "Position Food Stamps No Party Cues" and edit the question to read "The Government has put into law a plan to cut taxes. Experts agree that the plan has a 75 percent chance of creating many new jobs this year. But other experts point out that even if the plan works, it will greatly increase the national debt and thus hurt future generations.
