Creating the Control Group and its Events

Treatment Group                 S1              M1         M2        M3        M4      S2
Control Group                      S1       (  )       M1         M2        M3        M4      S2

A powerful time-saving feature of ProtoGenie lets us simply insert run-time copies of permanent events (made for one group) wherever events are identical in the same or different groups.  In the most general case, making a control group would simply be a matter of adding a group and inserting run-time copies of the events that were made for the treatment group into the new group - and substituting a null event for the treatment event.

The is not entirely true of our unique combined methods study because the questions in the control group are slightly (but importantly) different from the questions in the treatment group.  Consequently, we cannot simply insert run-time copies of those question events into the Control Group from the Treatment Group.  The diagram above shows which pairs of events are different in the two groups (in red) and which pairs are the same and can therefore be copied (in green).

So, let's make the control group, Enter the names of the events that match into that group, and then custom make the other events.

To make the control group, click on the Make & Edit Groups tab of the Edit Protocol Page.  Click on CREATE.  Click on "New Group" and change its name to "Control Group."  Go back to the Sequencing page.  Select "Control Group."  Select "Welcome Screen" in the Event Names Window and click the Enter Event Name right arrow.  Do the same for "Intensity Position Food Stamps," "Intensity Position Tax Cuts," and "End Screen."
